Wellness...It's a Walk in the Park
Sunderland City Council's Wellness Service is proud to launch, its new citywide 'way marked' walking programme, 'Wellness it's a Walk in the Park'. The walking programme is available from April 2010 within ten of the cities parks: Backhouse Park, Princess Anne Park, Mowbray Park, Herrington Country Park, James Steel Park, Hetton Lyons Country Park, Roker Park, Silksworth SC Park, Hylton Dene Park, (and Barnes Park 2011).
Dependant on the size of the park, the way marked walk routes are roughly 1, 2 or 3 miles in distance and are suitable for walkers, runners, wheelchair users and pushchairs. Arrows of different colours indicate the different walk distances.
The official programme launch is w/c 5th April 2010, (to coincide with World Health Day on Wednesday 7th April), with a led walk in each of the parks from Tue 6th to Sat 10th April. Promotional leaflets and walking maps are available to download now:
