FAQs
Q: I have some spare time and would like to become a Volunteer Walk Leader, how do I go about this?
A: First of all have a look at the volunteer
walk leaders information. For further information please contact our Physical Activity Development
Officer (0191 561 4693 or email laura.bartlett@sunderland.gov.uk)
who can give you all of the relevant walking programme information and details of the next available VWL training course.
Q: I would like to set up my own Walking Group but don't know how, what would you advise?
A: Please visit www. http://www.wfh.naturalengland.org.uk/
and read their PDF document entitled 'How to Set up A Health Walk Scheme' and/or contact our Physical Activity Development Officer
(on 0191 561 4693 or email
laura.bartlett@sunderland.gov.uk)
who will assist you with promoting your activities.
Q: I would like to promote my walking club/group to attract more members, how can I do this?
A: You can promote your club/group activities via the Active Sunderland
website directory. Visit the directory section of the website and download the
form to fill in with your details. Once you have done this return it to sports.leisure@sunderland.gov.uk
and we will include your details in the directory.
Q: Where can I find some information about when and where the led walks are?
A: Please visit our walking
programmes page for all walking information and our downloadable PDFs.
Q: My GP has suggested I increase my walking to help me to reduce my weight - what do you recommend?
A: Walking is an excellent form of exercise to help with losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight. It is advisable for adults to take part in moderate physical activity five times per
week for approximately 30 minutes to do so. Please ensure you have medical clearance from your GP/Healthcare professional before undertaking any physical activity programme. Please visit
our walking page for all walking programme information and our downloadable
PDFs.
Q: I have recently had a baby and want to increase my walking with my pushchair - are any of the walks suitable for a pushchair?
A: Yes, all of the 'Wellness...it's a walk in the park' walking routes are suitable for pushchairs (and wheelchairs). Alternatively, you may want to access the
'Mums on the Move' exercise programme for new mums.
