Wanted: Volunteer Walk Leaders


Sunderland City Council's Wellness Service are currently looking for individuals who are interested in becoming Volunteer Walk Leaders, to deliver and expand the current Wellness Summer Walking Programme and the number of weekly walks offered as part of the programme. 

Full Volunteer Walk Leader training is provided FREE OF CHARGE to all interested volunteers, as well as First Aid Training (which is not essential), a CRB check, essential kit to enable you to deliver the role, out of pocket travel expenses and a Volunteer Handbook.

All we ask for in return is that you have some regular spare time to which you can give to deliver the led walks. 

The Volunteer Walk Leader Training course is delivered by the training team of Natural England's Walking for Health Scheme. Courses are organised as and when required and held within venues in Sunderland. The course:
 
* Lasts for approximately 5 hours 
* Has no exam/test and is very informal
* Covers the following areas: 
    - how to lead a walk for a group
    - route planning
    - risk assessments 
    - safety issues 
    - roles and responsibilities of a walk leader 
    - taking part in a demonstration walk 
    - motivation skills 
    - the qualities of a good walk leader

Once completed, the award insures and enables you as an individual to deliver led walks to groups as part of the Wellness Walking Programme. 

NB kit is provided.

The next training course is being held at Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centres on Friday 14th October 2011.
