UK School Games 2nd - 5th September 2010

The 2009 Games, hosted by Cardiff, was a massive success with 1600 athletes and over 300 volunteers taking part. 2010 is set to be bigger and better as the UK School Games comes to the North East.

The UK School Games is an inclusive, multi-sport event for elite, young athletes of school age. It aims to provide talented young sports people from the UK with the opportunity to compete in an event which replicates the feel of the Olympic and Paralympics Games and to inspire and encourages more young people to take part in sport. Sports included in the games are:

  • Track Cycling
  • Volleyball
  • Swimming
  • Fencing
  • Table Tennis
  • Hockey
  • Judo
  • Athletics
  • Gymnastics
  • Badminton

Activities will be happening all over the region including Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland. Our City will be hosting Swimming at the Aquatic Centre, and Judo and Table Tennis at the Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre.

The Games also provides opportunities for people of all ages to experience working as a volunteer or official at an International sporting event. The Games relies on a massive 350 volunteers to play key roles such as media assistants, drivers, and sport specific volunteers.

If you think you would be interested in volunteering or just getting more information about the Games then visit the External Link UK Schools Games website.

The official launch date of the Games is the 15th March, which coincides with the date you can start to register as a volunteer. Keep you eyes peeled for posters promoting the event around the city, it promises to be an exciting time.
