Tyne and Wear Sport is one of 49 County Sports Partnerships located across England.
They are funded and supported by Sport England and a wide range of sub regional partners to co-ordinate activity and sports programmes in Tyne & Wear. The partners they work with consist of a wide range of local, regional and national organisations including Sport England, local authorities, school sport partnerships, national governing bodies of sport, education, training and voluntary groups.
Tyne and Wear Sports overriding aim is to work together to increase the quality, range and fairness of opportunities for sport and physical activity. This overriding purpose is supported by a partnership role, which has been strongly articulated by partners during the business planning process as being about providing 'the glue' between organisations, bringing them together in order to:
- Provide an opportunity for partners to do things better, by learning from others;
- Do things that they cannot do on their own, by working together;
- Shape and influence cross cutting agendas and the agendas of others;
- Undertake strategic planning for sport and physical activity;
- Demonstrate the collective impact of the work of the partners in sport and physical activity.
