Olympic Art in Sunderland
Great North Run Culture and Locus+ have commissioned Cerith Wyn Evans to create Permit yourself..., a major piece of temporary public art in Sunderland that explores the true spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Cultural Olympiad.
Permit yourself… is a large-scale kinetic sculpture formed from double-sided mirrors, with text intricately cut out of each panel and assembled as a huge mobile.
Hanging within a large warehouse in the heart of one of Sunderland’s industrial quarters, by the river Wear, Permit yourself… is continually moving. With each panel revolving slowly, no visitor will experience the same sequence of changing light and text.
Permit yourself… is a 5-minute walk from the Pallion Metro stop. Directions and a map to the site will be available
soon from the website - http://www.greatnorthrunculture.org/programme/2011/permit-yourself
The sculpture will be available to visit from 16th September - 23rd October
