Active Club Focus

Barnes Angels FC

Started in December 2007 the club was formed by a group of parents who wanted girls of all abilities to be given the chance of playing and enjoying football. Too many teams in the area only recruited girls who were the most talented and Barnes Angels wanted to change that. Almost 3 years on and it can safely be said that that goal has been achieved with many girls having enjoyed training & playing with the team. They are affiliated with Durham County FA and have achieved the FA’s ‘Charter Standard’ award.
The team train every Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7pm-8pm at the grass pitches behind the Valley Road Community Primary School, Corporation Road in Hendon. The first 4 weeks training is FREE and weekly subs are £1.50.

In June 2010 the club members took part in a tournament at Coxhoe United, the U13's and U11's joined forces to take part in the event and finished second which is a fantastic achievement winning 3 games and only losing 1.

Brenden Ward, Head Coach for Barnes Angels FC said:

"We have found over the past 12 months that there are girls wanting to play football but many are still unsure how to contact teams. Hopefully this type of advertising and media will help girls to find clubs and allow girls football to grow which it deserves.
With the help of Durham FA and Sunderland City Council we are looking to expand further. September 2010 we are hoping to place 3 teams into the Russell Foster League U15’s, U13’s & U11’s. We are expecting our membership during 2010 to expand to 40+ members. Joining the team is easy, just come along to one of our training sessions and have a chat with us - it couldn't be simpler. I look forward to welcoming a lot of new faces in the future!"

Well done Barnes Angels FC and keep up the good work.
