Welcome to the Community Sport Network Website

sportsIt is clear that high quality sport and physical activity has a lasting impact on every aspect of community life. It undoubtedly impacts on the physical and social health of communities: it regenerates estates, helps tackle crime, engages those who are hard to reach and raises achievement in our schools, colleges and universities. Further, our regional and national achievements in sport and physical activity give the city a sense of pride and character.

The city’s reputation in sport and physical activity transcends the outstanding work of the voluntary, private and public sector.

In the public and private sector we have significant citywide investment into high quality leisure facilities. The City also benefits from dedicated volunteers who give more time every year, to delivering the benefits of sport and physical activity to many neighbourhoods, clubs and schools.

It is therefore clearly recognised that in order to use the power of sport and physical activity to promote the social, economic and environmental well-being of an area, it is responsibility of ‘everyone’.

The Community Sport Network aims to bring together all these partners in ensuring sport really does reach everyone in Sunderland.
